In this picture, there is beauty in the infinite vastness of pain, whereas in "Here Comes The Rain" again the exultation of falling in love is the cornerstone. There is beauty in resignation, reflection, and introspection - even if they are all symptomatic of pain.
Such a revelation can only be made by someone of Annie's wisdom and experience, as her liner notes about the material on "Bare" suggests. Sonically - and ultimately thematically -"The Saddest Song" has more in common with "The Gift" which would make sense as "The Gift" appears as a latter cut on one of her last studio album of new material. Lipson's sparse arrangment is as urgent is at is subtle on "The Saddest Song". Its bleeping and sweeping synths also evoke William Orbit's Loneliness - Annie Lennox - Bare (Cassette on Madonna's "Ray of Light" all the while stylistically the song also draws upon vintage Motown soul a la "The Miracles".
Clearly, Annie has delivered another masterpiece that draws on a variety of influences yet is distinctly Annie Lennox as only the inimitable Annie Lennox could. Call it a soul album, call it a pop album, but it is more than that.
It is a "Bare Essential". Annie's Bare album helped me get through the death of my husband in I must have played it times. She's a genius with a pure soul. Catch Nostalgia on DVD. Her strutting on stage; her obvious love for her band members-- she is the ultimate entertainer. Loves me some Annie Lennox!!!
I love Annie Lennox and this CD didn't disappoint. It is rare you buy music CD's and Like all the songs but I did on this one and that says something about Annie Lennox and her craft with words and music.
One person found this helpful. For anyone who has had their heart shattered, each word can be related to on this album. This is a very personal inside look at Lennox's broken heart -- which while cathartic for her, is a very generous revelation to the listener into her most personal life.
This is what Lennox intended, one assumes, for the greatest of artists has an undeniable need to connect with their fellow man. Lennox is growing and should not be criticized for not sounding like an earlier album. Who would want to be the same artist as they were a year ago, Loneliness - Annie Lennox - Bare (Cassette, ten years ago, twenty years ago? That would mean no growth -- the creative death of an artist. I have waited eagerly for Annie's new CD,and I am not disappointed.
Her voice is still the velvety, sultry gem it's always been, but this time with a little "age" to it. Not worn down, but just a bit more earthy. I have latched on to one song in particular as my favorite from the CD:"Erased. The way a good sad song should, ala"One for My baby," et al. Any fan of Annie's will have already bought it,I'm sure. Now the rest of the public should give it a try. Glad you're back,Annie We missed you!! Product as described! Fast shipping.
Im so Glad to do business with you. She hits the mark with this funky, soulful, emotionally charged album. Her songwriting is amazing and complex.
My favorite is Honestly, where she combines soaring high notes with a background reminescent of the chatter that goes on inside ones head while having so many mixed emotions that you simply cannot control them all. Great stuff. The more I listen to this CD, the more I love it.
I just cant get enough of it! I get more out of each song each time I listen to it. I especially love Honestly and Loneliness, but, love all the songs. Thank you, Annie, you are amazing, thank you for sharing your incredible gift!
I hope you read these reviews from time to time so you can see how much people love your music! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Bare is arguably the most personal work that Lennox has every produced. It is not immediately accessible on first listen, it is a record you have to replay and reflect on; but the effort is well worth the reward.
The new collection of songs will appeal primarily to Lennox purists and anyone who has ever had a relationship hit the rocks most of us right?! The only thing to surpass it, is the live version and that can be found on the DVD of the solo tour.
The reviews in the British press have been decidedly impatient with Bare, but with the sparkling back catalogue of highly commercial hits that Lennox has, she now clearly feels freed from the chart game. This record is an assertion of that right in the face of her critics. If you want a CD to play in the car while in a traffic jam, at a party or while you are mopping the floor, then this is not the record for you.
But if you want a record to talk to you when you are alone then this is a must have. Report abuse. She is, of course, and if you like this lady's voice, she is in fine form here. I'm quite a hi-fi fan and several of the tracks, such as A Thousand Beautiful Things are wonderful, enveloping creations. For those of Annie's fellow-slaves wondering if they need another fix of Lennox, this album is of a comparable quality with Diva and Medusa. My favourite artist of all time. If you like her stuff this is for you.
Melodic from start to finish. Annie Lennox at her best and most creative. Best listened to late at night with a stiff brandy! There's a problem loading this menu right now. Lennox remixesis it maybe that they're afraid it will overshadow her elegant and mature music?. Stupid choice if you'd ask me! It's a pity The remixes for ''A Thousand Beautiful Things'' are both trance mixes. I also like the way this mix ends, Really cool. These guys will be around more often. The Bimbo Jones Stealth MixIs a house mix which makes full use of the original tune, allot of trance, and a major overflowing vibe which reminds me allot of the remixes that are done for CherI figure if you like her mixes, Loneliness - Annie Lennox - Bare (Cassette like this allot, as it is a really flawless mix-- although it seems almost impossible to eclipse the technique and distinction of the Scumfrog Mix done for ''Pavement Cracks''.
That mix alone is worth the 12 bucks!!!. Overall, It's a good CD-Single, but I still have an unbalanced feeling about it, cos it lacks mixes of ''Wonderful'', like another reviewer said, this is for those who want to get hold of the long-waited remixes of ''A Thousand Beautiful Things''.
I just hope that the record companies will stop alienating the remixes done for Annie Lennox, and release them. Let the fans decide!!!!!!!!! This is the cd single for the club freaks to get their hands on the mixes for the "A Thousand Beautiful Things" track plus if you don't have the US cd single with mixes for "Pavement Cracks".
This cd is one for the track "Wonderful" which has club mixes and is climbing the charts but there are no club mixes on the cd here. The best mix though is the Bimbo Jones Stealth Mix This mix is part house and trance and the vocals are front and center. Incredible mix that really shows off their remixing abilities. Another dance club winner for Annie Lennox. But Where Are the Remixes? Of the three tracks released as singles from 'Bare' all of them with a good selection of dance remixes by top namesthis is the one that is easiest to find.
BMG, to their credit, have seen fit to include the best versions of both 'A Thousand Beautiful Things' and 'Pavement Cracks' but completists should seek out the CD singles of both of these other singles to get even MORE remixes of these tracks plus the ones here.
As commented on by other reviewers, the real problem with this CD is the absence of any remixes of 'Wonderful' which is very frustrating. Especially since Dave Aude and Sander Kleinenberg's work on this song represent some of the best remixes of the 'Bare' tracks. If you already own CD singles of other 'Bare' tracks, you will be mightily disappointed with 'Wonderful' as you are only gaining the plain vanilla album mix. If you don't, this is an essential purchase for dance fiends everywhere and highly recommended.
Still a 5 Star rating because the remixes that are included on this CD single are fantastic! Annie Lennox has come a long way in the remix world. I really wish she would have included a remix of 'Wonderful' on this single - perhaps the astonishing Dave Aude Mix? Either Way - this is a winner - and I recommend it to any Annie Lennox or dance music fan. Need customer service?
