If you dig Chicago blues, jump blues, or any of Robben Ford's work with Spoon, get this album. There are some amazing cuts on this; Robben and Mark have some incredible solos. I cannot get over how swinging Stan Poplin's bass work is on this album; put in contexthe swings like a jazz guy, walks hard like a blues guy, and mixes both to create a great foundation for Robben and Mark to play over.
There are some great grooves on this CD; I wasn't crazy about the slower tunes because it didn't seem like the arrangements were as Gibson Creek Shuffle - The Charles Ford Band - The Charles Ford Band (CD.
Overall, the playing is just too good on this album to warrant anything less than 5 stars; how many people on the Grammys can play an instrument?
This album should be in every blues fan's ear. I've had this album since the 70's and am glad to have a CD copy!
A thumbs up recommendation for the true blues lover!!! One person found this helpful. Nuff said about that cut. Robben's vocals have a John Hammond, Jr. I really enjoyed this CD and anyone who likes the Butterfield-Cotton-Johnny Winter approach to the blues should dig it too. I've had this album on vinyl since way back then and it has been one of the very few albums that I will loan to NOBODY, not even my brother! Robben's blues roots are right up front and center, killer blues guitar on every cut.
And brother Mark tears it up on harp, amazing because these guys were just kids when this album was recorded. If this aint considered a classic, it oughta be! If you enjoy raw, rough and rowdy blues, this is it. Second generation white blues band, amazing harp and guitar, raw, tight sound, long blazing solos See all reviews.
