But it seems like the whole middle of the book was the back and forth between Foster and Riley. Fighting their attraction None of it rang true for me. They're on the road. Knowing that someone is out to kill them to protect themselves.
I didn't connect with any of the characters. Foster comes across as a badass, tough broad, drinking too much and showing that she's as good as any man even when it wasn't called for. Jun 15, Shannon rated it really liked it. It was romantic suspense, and a little darker than I normally like, Album) features a lesbian couple.
The story holds up very well. Foster, our first-person heroine, gets herself caught up in the middle of a situation that is rapidly getting out of control, involving crooked cops and lots of dead bodies. Quite frankly, she has no idea how to cope. Enter Riley, who is sweetness personified, and acts as a lovely foil for Foster. Both the mystery and the romance were well-done. I liked the fact that neither Foster nor Riley entirely fit the mold of a romance heroine.
Foster in particular is really flawed in a way I found believable. There is violence, and there is sex. Feb 01, Jesalyn rated it really liked it.
I was drawn into this story by the characters who were flawed and believeable. The chase and who dunnit of the story keep it moving. I would have liked a little more romance but considering the main character's personality, it takes a back seat. Alice Miller has some very strong opinions about what childhood trauma especiallly sexual trauma does to the child but also to the adult the child becomes. She is such an interesting person and her theories can be applied to other trauma's children go through from the loss of or abandonment by parents.
I am still very interested in disconnected youth so I decided to get out my reading list and do some heavy summer reading as part of my continuing interest and research into the subject. I feel as Alice Miller has some very strong opinions about what childhood trauma especiallly sexual trauma does to the child but also to the adult the child becomes. I feel as a librarian and teacher it is important to understand psychological development and trauma. I would recommend to anyone interested in hearing what a very well eduicated and passionate child advocate has to say about what the experiences of our childhood do to our experiences and our personality as we grow and become adults.
Dec 29, Andrew Barnett rated it it was amazing Shelves: therapy-healing. If everyone read this book, and took it seriously, we would be living in a more empathetic and dynamic world and be more connected to basic human emotional realities. Alice Miller is a godsend.
Shelves: all-time-greats-i-have-read. This author is brilliant. Her analysis rings true. The Untouched Key was more interesting. Andy Fletcher jokes that he favoured the video because "[he] only had to do about an hour's worth of work". The video uses a slightly different mix of the album version of the song the most notable difference being a new and extended introduction that has not been released in any audio format.
The final long shots of the king walking through the snow are not Gahan but rather the video's producer, Richard Bell. There are two edited versions of the Corbijn-directed video. One version begins with Andy Fletcher looking towards his right as the song begins. Shots of Dave Gahan dressed as a king singing directly to the camera are intercut with scenes of his walking through the Scottish Highlands, the coast of Portugal and the Swiss Alps.
The video ends with Gahan singing the last line, "Enjoy the silence", then putting his finger in front of his lips as Broadway Jane - Wall Of Silence (2) - Works (CD to quiet the viewer.
This version omits the shots of Gahan singing directly to the camera. On 19 Decembera promotional single for "Enjoy the Silence" was pressed.
There are two instrumental B-sides to "Enjoy the Silence". The title of "Sibeling" refers to Finnish classical composer Jean Sibelius. According to Martin Gore, Album), "Memphisto is the name of an imaginary film about Elvis as a Devilthat I created in my mind", and is a portmanteau of "Memphis" where Elvis lived at Graceland and "Mephisto".
Billboard wrote that the song is a "more radio-viable effort" than the group's last hit, " Personal Jesus ". They noted further that the track "blends [the] quintet's recognizable techno-pop melodies with trendy house grooves. The "Reinterpreted" version was remixed by Mike Shinodathe rapper and producer for the American band Linkin Parkwho played most of the instruments.
Mike Shinoda 's "Enjoy the Silence 04" was a distortion guitar-driven version of the song, in which he imprinted Linkin Park 's distinctive nu metal sound. Its animated music video was directed by Uwe Flade. Tori Amos covered the song for her concept album Strange Little Girls. Stereogum listed Tori's version as one of the 8 most memorable Depeche Mode covers. There is a UK version of the video and an international one.
Both videos, shot with "Closer" music video on 12 Marchcame out in Juneinclude the band performing in a dark room, but aside from that the UK version shows live clips of the London Forum show, while the international one shows scenes of a city Portland, Oregonthe countryside, and a bay.
